Are you sure, everyday you chow down on food produced from plants don’t carry deadly poisons?
It may be hard to digest but most of your favorite fruits and vegetables contains poison in smaller percentage. Their excessive consumption may result in sickness or fatality.
Well, the list of food that contains a bit or few of poison is long but as we have to list the Top 5 so here are some of the most poisonous food we love eating.
Despite of their overall red goodness, cherries are toxic. But don’t panic, they’re rarely poisonous when eaten whole. It’s only dangerous when you’ve eaten a cherry and without thought chewed on the pip or left it in your mouth.
If a cherry pip is chewed, crushed, or somehow damaged, it automatically produces hydrogen cyanide in your body. This can cause headache, dizziness, confusion, anxiety, and vomiting.
Large doses can also lead to difficulty in breathing, increased blood pressure, heart rate, and kidney failure.
As you may know, some of them are poisonous, but the question is do all of them can cause harm to our body?
There are about 5000 types of mushrooms known in the U.S. and about 100 of them are said to be toxic, while less than a dozen are deadly.
So, all of them are not poisonous, usually said that any mushroom found in the wild are more than likely poisonous. The most deadliest are Alpha-amanitin, which causes extreme liver damage. Toadstools, as they are called, are the poisonous mushrooms.
Its amazing suitability for use in cooking have made it one of the most popular ingredients in pastry kitchens for centuries.
The one & only problem with them is, they’re full of cyanide. Processed almonds are not poisonous but the one which are not contains cyanide.
That’s why it is always advised to process or heat the bitter almonds to remove the poison.
Today, tomatoes are considered as vegetables. But prior they are considered to be fruit or more accurately, a berry. You may also be amazed to know that technically, a tomato is an ovary.
Okay, that was some fun facts about it, now here’s why it is considered poisonous-
The leaves and stems of the tomato plant contain a chemical called “Glycoalkaloid” which causes extreme nervousness and stomach upsets.
Many don’t consider them while cooking but the thing is, they must be removed before eating.
Here the seeds are the culprit, Apple seeds contain a substance called Amygdalin that can release cyanide when they come in contact of digestive enzymes.
Every Kg of apple seed contains 700 milligrams of cyanide & trust me this small amount is really dangerous for our body.
Though apple seeds are naturally covered by a coating that will protect you from the side effects. But it is better to remove that parts while having Apple.
