Netflix has been releasing Original Movies on their service at a rapid pace over the last few years. It’s almost hard to believe that there are now a ton of original films
available on the streaming service. With so many movies to choose from it can be difficult to decide what to watch.

So, here I come up with a list of the Top 5 Original Netflix Movies 2018 you can watch right now on Netflix.

#1. Beasts of No Nation

Beasts of No Nation, a grueling war story set in an unnamed African country. Idris Elba gives a powerhouse performance as the commandant! The warlord of a rebel army that trains children as soldiers. His new recruit is Agu (Ghanaian discovery Abraham Attah), a boy who saw his family slaughtered.

His army indoctrination includes heroin (“brown-brown”), sexual abuse and killing with a machete.
Elba (The Wire, Luther) gives the commandant a lethal swagger. Plus, inklings of a buried conscience make his brutality even scarier. The Oscar for Best Supporting Actor should have his name on it.

But it’s the remarkable Attah, whose young face reflects a hellish journey, that makes this fierce movie a blazing, indelible achievement.

#2. The Little Prince

The first animated feature-length film based on French author Antoine de Saint. Exupéry’s timeless 1943 novella is cleverly done, combining modern, Pixar-style CG animation with quaint stop-motion to reflect the chasm between the cold, depersonalized adult world and the too-often forgotten wonder of childhood.

Its central message – “it is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye” – sits alongside gentle philosophical reminders that love is enduring, and growing up needn’t mean shredding your dreams.

If you love animated movies, this is the one you should definitely watch!

#3. Mudbound

The story revolves around two farming families living in rural Mississippi. They’re dealing with poverty, hardship and, in the case of sharecroppers the Jacksons, the rampant racism of the time.
The film set during a tumultuous period in history that has worrying parallels with current events. Something we’ve sadly heard too often in recent months.

From the police brutality and race riots of Detroit to the egotistical political scheming of The Death Of Stalin, some of the more unsavory elements of the 20th century are sadly alive and thriving in 2017.
Netflix’s Mudbound is a weighty, unmissable film about people, their land, and their history. The star-studded historical drama confronts racial tensions in post-war Mississippi.

#4. The Fundamentals of Caring

The Fundamentals of Caring,” a saccharine buddy dramedy from writer-director Rob Burnett (best known as the executive producer of “The Late Show with David Letterman”).
One of the best aspects to this movie is in how the disabled lead character, Trevor, is portrayed not as a helpless victim of circumstance. But as a three-dimensional, flawed, and ultimately vulnerable character, a character not simply and simplistically solely defined by his disability.
The cast does its best to squeeze meaning out of the tired script. Burnett’s comedy background keeps things lighthearted, though the jokes produce more smiles than laughs.

Ben’s obsession with helping Trevor stand up to pee (“it’s pretty great”) is an odd choice for a dramatic crescendo. Furthermore, Trevor’s fixation with sex — while realistic in its way — doesn’t exactly seem revelatory.

#5. Okja

“Okja” is the heartwarming tale of a girl and her giant mutant pig brought to life through a mix of digital effects and puppetry that makes a nonexistent beast seem as real as E.T. or King Kong.
Despite the family-friendly poster of a giant pig and a little girl, and though it has many comic elements, it’s an extremely intense, violent film about cruelty to animals in a world in which corporations wreak havoc on the planet.

After a brief intro to the science behind the “breeding” of some superpigs, the movie moves to a beautiful Korean mountainside where the young heroine and her devoted 10-year-old superpig, Okja, romp and reveal their unique friendship.
