Maybe a Pizza or burger are enough to make you happy but there are people who order outstandingly expensive foods. Why? Simply because they can!
I personally have trouble spending more than $20 on my own food and drinks, I see myself crazy about forking over as little as $10 for a meal.
But if you have some good money in your pocket, you can go for some of the best & most expensive foods in the world.
Below is a list of top 5 most expensive foods in the world.
#1. White Truffles
Truffle is a wild product, it is a natural product. It is not something you can cultivate or control. Its october which marks the start of white truffle season, the time of year when these rare mushrooms are showered tableside on dishes, signifying luxury!
No doubt truffles are rare but the white ones are extremely rare & are just
available a couple of months of the year, almost exclusively from one part of Italy, where they must be foraged by special pigs.
Do two thousand dollars a pound seems like a lot to pay for this mushroom. Keeping their rarity in mind & of course how far the Italian imports have to travel to reach most restaurants with that pungent memory of lost youth and old love affairs, it definitely worth it.
#2. Almas Caviar
Almas Cavier or the eggs from a super-rare albino sturgeon that swims in the unpolluted waters of the Caspian Sea comes in a gold plated container! That’s enough to showcase its royalty.
This fine stuff is sold exclusively through Caviar House & Prunier in London. A kilo i.e, 2.2 pounds costs around $25,000 but those on a tighter budget can indulge in smaller tins for less than $2,000.
They’re found primarily in the Caspian Sea, the world’s largest salt-water lake, bordered by Iran and the CIS countries. It can also be found in the Black Sea basin and occasionally in the Adriatic Sea.
Due to the rarity of this fish species, this becomes such an expensive treat to have!
#3. Matsutake Mushrooms
They are high in protein, low in fat and rich in vitamins B1, B2, and D, and are believed to have many healthful properties.
Their amazingly spicy aroma, reminiscent of pine and cinnamon, enhances wild mushroom dishes and makes such awesome stuffed mushrooms.
The credit to the unique flavor of fresh matsutake mushrooms goes to the rare conditions under which it grows, under the base of pine trees between 20 to 60 years old.
That’s the reason why people spent as much as 240$ for a box of three or four mushrooms!
#4. The Douche Burger
Douche Burger, a $666 edible fiscal disaster that piles caviar, lobster & truffles on top of a foie-stuffed, gold-leaf-wrapped Kobe patty, smothers it with Gruyere melted with Champagne steam.
The burger starts with a piece of foie gras encased in “Kobe” beef, covered in aged Gruyere and topped with lobster and caviar, smothered in truffle butter and then gilded with gold flake.
It is even told that an entire burger requires around five sheets of gold leaf. That’s about $20 of gold just to make the burger look shiny.
Sounds great, I think will taste even better, what say?
#5. Yubari King Melon
They comes in pair, in a previous auction, a sale of two premium Yubari cantaloupes tipped the scales at $27,000, a sale price record.
Obviously, Yubari melons are rare, but at around $13,500 per melon, you may be wondering why anyone would shell out that much cash for a pair of fruits.
The secret behind their origin is embedded in the Second world war, during it Yubari farmers crossbredded their original melon with one from Europe, and got the one they grow today, called “Yubari King.
But the other things that make it so special is, their renowned sweetness.
